Dr. Richman is an Attending at Long Island Jewish Valley Stream (formerly Franklin Hospital Medical Center) where he teaches dental education to patients, doctors and nurses. A member of the American Academy of General Dentistry, Dr. Richman’s primary focus is preventive and cosmetic dentistry and he is committed to furthering his knowledge of the field with continuing education.

Patients who are scared of being in the dental chair have a new option to ease their anxiety. “Dr. Max,” a medical therapy dog at Smiles Unlimited Dentistry, is helping patients overcome their fear of dental procedures. Originally purchased as his family’s first pet, Dr. Richard Richman was so impressed with Max’s calm disposition and gentle manner with his children that he quickly had the idea that Max might help some of his more anxious patients. He started bringing Max to his office in March 2023, and found that patients loved having Max in their lap while undergoing even the simplest of dental procedures. Now a certified medical therapy dog after months of training, this shorkie poo loves coming to work with Dr. Richman each week and patients now look forward to their visits with “Dr. Max” and the other specialists at Smiles Unlimited.
